Ashley Shaw, MC
Ashley has a calming presence that puts clients at ease. Her accepting and compassionate approach to counselling make clients feel safe to explore their deepest concerns. She enjoys helping clients gain a deeper understanding of themselves, to create lasting change and growth that helps them realize their full potential. She understands the importance of spirituality and is able to incorporate aspects of Christian faith into sessions as requested. If clients prefer a strictly Psychological approach to treatment, Ashley offers this as well.

For individuals, Ashley works from an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) framework although she is able to integrate other therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy and Rogerian (client-centered) Therapy to best suit her clients’ needs. ACT is a research based approach which uses Mindfulness strategies to deal with painful thoughts and feelings effectively and value-directed behaviour change strategies to guide clients towards a more rich and meaningful life.
For couples, Ashley primarily uses a Gottman based approach. Dr. John Gottman is world renowned in his research based approach which helps couples to truly understand why they are having trouble communicating, and what steps they can take to move from gridlock to meaningful dialogue. This allows for progress early on, as well as lasting change.
